Crowdfunding in Ghana — your questions answered

How does crowdfunding in Ghana work on MyOpenHand?

You create a fundraiser, our team reviews it before it goes live, you share the link, and donors contribute securely by Mobile Money or card via Paystack. When your fundraiser has raised funds, you request a withdrawal to Mobile Money or your bank account — payouts run on a weekly cycle.

Is it free to start a fundraiser in Ghana?

Yes — fundraisers keep 100% of what they raise - the platform fee (when it applies) is paid by donors at checkout, never taken from your fundraiser. Donors cover the Paystack processing fee at checkout, and payout transfers carry a small fee (1% for mobile money capped at GHS 20, free for Ecobank accounts, GHS 10 to other banks) that is shown upfront before you request a withdrawal.

Can I raise money for medical bills or school fees?

Yes — medical bills, school fees, emergencies, funerals, community projects and more. Fundraisers are organized into categories so supporters can find the causes they care about.

How do I receive the money I raise?

You can request a withdrawal anytime from your dashboard, to Mobile Money (MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AT Money) or your bank account. Before any payout, the organizer completes identity verification (KYC), and approved withdrawals are paid out on a weekly cycle with email updates at every step.

How does MyOpenHand make sure fundraisers are real?

Every fundraiser is reviewed by our team before it goes live, and organizers complete identity verification (KYC). Donors can see real progress, real updates and real names — and our Trust & Safety policy explains exactly how donations and payouts are protected.

Can people outside Ghana donate?

Yes — donations are processed securely through Paystack, so supporters abroad can contribute by card. Payments are received in Ghana and withdrawn by the organizer to Mobile Money or a Ghanaian bank account.
