Every fundraiser is reviewed
Before any fundraiser goes live on MyOpenHand, it is reviewed by our team. Fundraisers start as "Under review" and only become publicly visible after approval. If a fundraiser is rejected, the creator receives a clear reason. This means donors only ever see fundraisers that our team has vetted.
The VERIFIED badge
Creators can go a step further by submitting supporting documents (such as a national ID or registration certificate) for verification. Once approved, their fundraiser is marked VERIFIED — a clear signal to donors that the cause has been checked.
Your money is handled securely
Donations are processed securely by Paystack, one of Africa’s leading payment providers, using mobile money or card. The donor covers the processing fee (1.95%) at checkout, so the fundraiser owner receives exactly what the fundraiser raises. Fundraisers keep 100% of what they raise; if a platform fee is introduced in the future it will be added at checkout and paid by the donor - never taken from what the fundraiser raises. Every cedi donated is tracked and shown in real time on the fundraiser.
Verified payouts, on a weekly cycle
Organizers can request a withdrawal anytime from their dashboard — to Mobile Money or their bank account. Before any payout, the organizer must complete identity verification (KYC), and our team reviews every request. Approved withdrawals are paid out on a weekly cycle, transfer fees are disclosed upfront (1% of the amount for mobile money, capped at GHS 20; free for Ecobank accounts; GHS 10 for other banks), and organizers are emailed at every step (approved, paid, or rejected). Every cedi that leaves a fundraiser is tracked.
A community that holds itself accountable
Creators are expected to be honest about their fundraisers, keep supporters updated, and use funds for the stated purpose. If you ever have a concern about a fundraiser, contact us and we will investigate promptly.
